Allured Business Media and Global Cosmetic Industry
Nyakio (pronounced Neh-Kay-Oh) Grieco is a beauty entrepreneur with two successful businesses: her eponymous beauty brand nyakio™ that launched in 2002 and Thirteen Lune, which she launched with her co-founder Patrick Herning in 2020. Nyakio has long been an advocate for clean beauty for all skin colors, types and needs. Using beauty secrets she learned from her Kenyan background and travels around the world, she successfully launched nyakio™ to a marketplace desperately in need of clean beauty products. Today, nyakio™ is also carried at Target stores nationwide. In 2020, when the world was profoundly impacted by Black Lives Matter’s racial justice movement, Nyakio noticed a plethora of Black owned beauty brands finally getting due recognition from mainstream media, yet there was no main community hub in which consumers could seek them out efficiently. Additionally, she noticed the misconception that BIPOC beauty founders were only creating product for BIPOC consumers. Thus, Thirteen Lune launched as a community based in allyship to highlight BIPOC founded brands in one shoppable location, that do in fact make product for all people in an effort of true amplification and allyship that lasts beyond a particular time of year.

As an Army brat living overseas, and later as an ex-pat traveling the world, Kathryn was captivated by self-expression through beauty and culture.
It was natural that she was drawn into the salon world where her own over the top self-expression of beauty was celebrated, finding joy aiding the transformation of others.
While taking a break from the salon, Kathryn discovered how difficult it was to self-color her hair at home and despite her skills. The awkwardness and mess made her dread what should have been an experience of self-care. On further exploration, she discovered that most home color was applied with rigid, ketchup-like, single-use bottles provided in kits that were bound for ocean waste and landfills.
After many years, multiple designs, prototypes, and testing, Kathryn’s final design has now been internationally patented. The Hummingbird has launched as Dye Candy’s flagship product with a mission to provide a sustainable option to single-use plastics, transforming the experience and outcome of color application and in the process touching the heads of many, just like she did while in the salon.

Co-founder & CEO
Kimberly Shenk is Co-founder and CEO of Novi, a turnkey solution for formulators to build beauty and personal care products that meet the complex transparency needs of today’s consumers. Novi does this by gathering detailed raw material information directly from suppliers and making it possible to easily cross-check against detailed regulations and retailer standards. Formulators can build new products, sample new ingredients, and order raw materials and packaging directly on Novi- enabling transparency and compliance without the paperwork and endless reformulations.
As CEO, Kimberly works to provide her team, a passionate group of self-starters from diverse backgrounds and domains, with what they need to succeed. This may mean getting money or resources, hiring talent, developing connections, or even plugging gaps wherever they are, from joining customer calls to writing blog content, or sending cold outreach emails.
Novi is driving accessibility and transparency in the chemical industry, much like Zillow did for the Real Estate world. Novi is here to change the way chemicals and materials are discovered and purchased for the entire consumer products industry, helping brands and their manufacturers more effectively make the transparent products that consumers are demanding – for the betterment of humans and the planet.
Kimberly has a consistent thread in her background and accomplishments that prove she is “turned on by the impossible.” She gravitates towards pushing the boundaries and tackling problems that aren’t comfortable to generate progress, which is why she is taking the immense, antiquated $5T chemical industry head-on. At age 17, Kimberly got her private pilot's license with a dream to fly fighter jets in the United States Air Force. When she was stationed at Pearl Harbor as a Captain in the Air Force with a highly coveted Top Secret security clearance and worked directly for the Pacific’s 3-star General running intelligence models, her goal was realized. She won the 2013 Richard H. Barchi Prize for her work in the position for “Analytics on Improving Integrated Air & Missile Defense in the Pacific Area of Responsibility.” After the military, she started a second career in the tech industry. She built and led the Data Organization at Eventbrite and led the Product Organization at tech startup Domino Data Lab. Building on her passion for clean products, she co-founded NakedPoppy in 2017, raising $4M to leverage data to bring better products to market.
During this time, she discovered how difficult it was to find data on the chemicals being used and develop better, more transparent products. Trying to solve this ultimately led her to start Novi.
Pushing her limits athletically has directly translated to Kimberly’s professional successes. She raced in the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, and ran the California International Marathon in 2 hours 58 minutes, missing the Olympic qualifying time by only 13 minutes. She shares this passion for health, wellness and motivating women to her thousands of followers on Instagram.
Kimberly graduated top of her class from the United States Air Force Academy with a double major in Mathematics & Operations Research, and was an Academic All-American as captain of the Division I volleyball team. Upon graduation, she was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. She attended graduate school at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on a full-ride scholarship to study Data Science, and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Operations Research.
Director of Science and Research
Yashi Shrestha is Director of Science & Research at Novi, a turnkey solution for formulators to build beauty and personal care products that meet the complex transparency needs of today’s consumers.
As the Director of Science and Research, Yashi is the lead on building out the scientific roadmap. Her job includes managing what features and policies brands can select to get their products vetted against, processing and managing chemical data from suppliers, working with engineers to provide product requirements for structuring data, and creating rules for doing assessments. She is also responsible for ensuring that Novi maintains a relevant library of ingredients for brands to discover and use.
As the Director of Science & Research, Yashi is the lead on building the scientific roadmap for Novi. Her job includes managing what features and policies brands can select to formulate and assess their products against- this includes a range of criteria across health, environment, animal welfare, social justice as well as industry trends and regulatory requirements. Yashi is responsible for chemical data processing and management, and works directly with engineers to inform requirements for structuring and maintaining data integrity. She also informs the ingredient strategy for ensuring that the Novi library features a variety of relevant and innovative materials.
Yashi sees the future of consumer product development being about transparency as consumers get more educated and hold brands accountable to make sure the products they use are not only good for their health but also the planet. Brands will need to work downstream with their suppliers to understand how ingredients are sourced and manufactured and opt for technologies that use cleaner processes, are less energy-intensive, and have zero or minimal impact on the environment. Novi has started with personal care and cosmetics, but Yashi sees Novi expanding into other industries including household cleaning goods, food, apparel, and more.
Yashi has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree with a minor in Environmental Science from Randolph College in Virginia, where she did research on evaluating the total antioxidant properties of skincare products. She is currently getting her MBA at USC Marshall School of Business, and plans on focusing on Sustainability, Society, and Business concentration. Yashi has a Green Chemistry and Chemical Stewardship Program certificate from the University of Washington and was recently selected as a 30 under 30 honoree by Greenbiz. She is also an advisory board member at NakedPoppy.
Born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal, where her parents and brother still live, Yashi moved to the United States about ten years ago. In her free time, Yashi enjoys being outdoors, hiking, visiting National Parks, and traveling and experiencing different cultures around the world. Her adventurous spirit has also taken her bungee jumping and skydiving.
Founder & CEO
NOHBO & SUNRISE SESSION
Ben ideated Nohbo as a passion project after viewing a documentary in his biology class covering the ins and outs of the plastic bottling industry. He was horrified to see a plethora of waste flooding landfills and oceans as well as engulfing local ecosystems across the globe. Taking this issue deeply to heart, and determined that reducing, reusing and recycling did not hold any muster to replacing the need for plastic consumption out right, he founded Nohbo on the premise of making products that disappear.
Shortly thereafter, Nohbo made waves with an appearance on Shark Tank. Ben won over the panel of investors with his sustainable podded personal care company, and secured a deal with Mark Cuban to turn his vision into a reality.
The former governor of Florida, Rick Scott, commended Ben with a Young Entrepreneur Award for innovations developed under Nohbo. He has spoken at MIT, Yale, the Natural Product’s Expo West and has been featured in Forbes, The Huffington Post, The Daily Mail, Business Insider, among others.
Ben was awarded a Thiel Fellowship as part of the class of 2020.
Fast forward to today, Ben manages a team of beauty and personal care experts hungry and vision driven to eliminate plastics outright from an industry drowning in it. Ben has developed a vertically integrated supply chain and launched plus oversaw large scale partnerships with hotel distributors and global CPG conglomerates alike.

Cam started SharpEnd in 2014 as the world’s first IoT agency with a mission to transform the real world into a connected platform via experience-led innovation in-store, on-product and at-home.
SharpEnd proudly supports a wide range of the world’s most ambitious brands across fashion, beauty, drinks and FMCG in more than 50 countries (and counting). Inspired by their own programmes that were delivering huge amounts of data from across the world, SharpEnd then launched a proprietary SaaS solution for brands wanting to connect their packaging and retail channels across a wide range of technologies. This platform, called io.tt, now handles billions of touchpoints every day in over 100 countries.
In 2021 SharpEnd launched CornerShop - a retail store of the future in the heart of Shoreditch with partners Capgemini and The Drum. Designed to be a ‘real world creds’, CornerShop allows brands to get hands-on (or off) with all the technologies that are expected to shape the now, near and next of retail experience. He is a regular speaker, writer and podcast guest exploring how to build brands in a connected world and has spoken on many of the world’s biggest stages including Cannes, the Festival of Marketing, LuxePack, Ad:Week, DMA, Cosmetics Business Live, Mobile World Congress and the IoT World Forum.
